My sister(-in-law) Darcee and I have a constant text conversation going about life in general. But life in general also includes a lot of book talk! She decided [and I agreed] that we should let you all in on the love with a book giveaway.

In 2016, my friend Katie and I set out to read 36 books. We figured 24 (2/month) sounded too easy. We were a little bit overzealous in our goal, but it was worth it! We carried a book everywhere. We were rarely reading the same books, but it felt like teamwork.

2016 hasn't been a very reflective year for me. It's mostly just happened, my heart racing to keep up with the pace of it all. Even now I feel a little scattered -- content, peaceful, but my thoughts aren't organized and my words aren't cohesive.
I'm here to take up for the innkeeper this Christmas. (The innkeeper who, incidentally, isn’t even mentioned in the Bible). This poor, unmentioned man gets such a bad rap. Everybody must have told Mary and Joseph that there was no room.
The living room is perfectly lit for Christmas. It’s cozy and warm. And it’s quiet. Maybe it’s the long, winter(ish) evenings or the fog that lifts slowly as the day starts. Maybe it’s the Christmas tree or the wooden manger scene beside it.

I wrote this post over two years ago. It's surreal to read it because it seems like a lifetime ago and I can also remember it all so clearly. But I've been thinking about it recently. Maybe it's because it's Advent and the mother of Jesus seems such a relevant character. Maybe it's because the days are shorter and quieter and it's usually easier in winter for me to remember to crawl up quiet with our Lord.
My roommates and I spent last weekend in Tennessee with Bethany’s family, and one night the three of us ended up playing a game called Say Anything. Eventually, we put the scorecards away and used the questions as late-night conversation prompts. (As though our conversations need prompting.)
I hear people say that the Lord won’t give you a platform until your character can sustain the spotlight. I suppose that may be true (although there are about a thousand ways to get a platform that don't involve the Lord's giving it to you, but that's not what I'm here to talk about). I'm here to talk about what I rarely hear people say.
It's been so long since I jumped on here to say hi. I've been writing a Bible study week by week, which I haven't done in over a year. It's taken me a while to find my rhythm. And the last thing I've wanted to do when it's finished is come and write more words.
Just a reminder to sign up for the Fall Bible Study if you're interested in participating in Face to Face: Encounters with the Living God! Kathy and I can't wait to begin looking at several times the Lord appeared to individuals in the Old Testament. We would love for you to join us!

I’m hoping to get back to blogging regularly here in a few weeks. But in the meantime, I just wanted to jump on here with my August book report! I've now finished books 16-18 of my #36in2016, which means I'm halfway there. For you math whizzes out there, that means I need to read an 18 more books now in the half the time that the first 18 took.

I’m really excited about something I get to do this fall! And I want to invite you to be a part of it. That’s right, we’re doing a Bible study! Sign up now to save your spot in person or online.

July has flown by. I was in and out of town, but I did manage to squeeze in three books. (If I'd done that every month, it would have put me right on target for 36 in 2016...but I have not.)
